"Metal" is the best thread title here

The tour isn’t coming to NYC this time :frowning: But they could still theoretically add more dates.

The only thing that happens on April 1 that is not a joke.

LOL the fans are trying to come up with any explanation that does not involve new members being added to the group.

There’s new TesseracT! It sounds like old TesseracT.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they had a shit ton of material just sitting there by how samey their stuff is. e_e

So a friend at work saw me listening to thunderhorse and assumed I was a Metalocalypse fan and asked if I’d seen doomstar requium (I’m not and I’d not) and linked me the above as a little taste (turned out to be the best part of the whole movie).

While the metal is very lovely and all, and I love that they clearly spend a lot of time animating the fingers accurately the thing that really got me was during the latter half there’s this animated ‘battle’ between guitars and it’s done as a call and response. I think I’m in love. I think I love call and response.

I later found this:

Does anyone have any other call and response style guitars? This is surprisingly hard to search. All I get is instructional videos on how to do it. I want call and response. The harder the better. If those better at metal could point me in directions likely to have this I’d be delighted.

Yes, I’ve heard dueling banjos, it’s not what I want, it’s overused.

I must admit I’ve searched for “vs guitar” or “guitar duel” on YouTube a few times in the past

There’s this too:

Guitar duels are an essential element of ridiculous metal. I will allow Mr. Kai Hansen to demonstrate (starts around 1:56 or so):

They released the official music video and we still don’t know fuckin’ jack shit about these chosen 7. Stupid fox god never spills the beans.

Bought my first metal album in a long while. It’s The Blackening by Machine Head and now I am sufficiently pissed off.

I’m not much of a metalhead myself, but my brother’s band, “A Trigger Within” is starting to get some traction and attention. (My brother is the keyboardist wearing the Blackheart shirt in the first video.)

Do you like non-growly metal? Fox God is smiling on you today:

Ghost wiki page:

Five of the group’s six members, its ‘Nameless Ghouls,’ wear virtually identical, face-concealing costumes.

lead singer Tobias Forge obscured his identity behind the character “Papa Emeritus.” The character, which consists of Forge in a prosthetic mask and makeup can be best described as a ‘demonic anti-pope.’

If that doesn’t get you excited.

Saw Gatecreeper and Full of Hell last night at St. Vitus.

Gatecreeper was wrecking shit and was awesome.

Full of Hell was loud noise, ended up leaving as it was getting late.

I want to see more Gatecreeper. Hope they have a new album soon.

Until then:

I saw Ghost a few weeks ago! The show was pretty good! Tobias has a weird bit of theatricality that I don’t quite get but it’s fun!

Wish I lived reasonably close enough to St. Vitus to make regular outings. But I will totally check out Gatecreeper, thanks for the rec!

They remind me a lot of Bolt Thrower, and that’s a good thing. What really hooked me on them early on was hearing Flamethrower. That cut just absolutely opens shit up live. People were being thrown into the air moreso than crowd surfing, and St. Vitus is not exactly a large venue for starters.
