I was unaware of this “unwritten rule.” I’ve seen a lot of huge score runups in baseball games in my life.
Maybe I just never interact with baseball fans?

Baseball has a lot of unwritten rules. Almost all of them will make you angry.
That’s it. Now I’m a Yankees fan.
At least his teammate has his back, coach.
I don’t get why they’re even a thing. I mean, sure, if it’s little league, or your local beer league, I can understand that, you don’t want to have someone just running up the score for no reason and making some little kids feel bad just to stroke some parents egos, or making the other beer league players not want to play because it’s not that fun anymore.
But these people are meant to be professional players. It’s their job to play hard and win. Pushing up the score to ensure they win the game is literally their job.
How about have the “run-up” rules in professional baseball!
If you get up by 10 at any point, the game just ends and you just win.
Mercy rules would be nice, but let’s be honest, sponsors, advertisers, TV networks, etc would never allow it.

Edit: If you want to get into Baseball you need to watch Jomboy’s breakdowns.
Jacob DeGrom won the 69th game of his career and his ERA is 1.69.
NICE
It’s a low bar. They’re getting over that bar by the slimmest margin. Moving very very slowly, but at least in the right direction.
My hero. Truly a legend. A+++ And we got an even stronger gamer in the replies:
100% YES
That’s little league-tier stuff. Everyone’s taught to stay put until the umps signal.
Although if the stadium fireworks start going off and music blasting, you might catch a guy not paying attention.
Ending of Game 4 of the World Series. Three of the biggest fuck-ups in baseball history happen in a row.
Looks like the Dodgers are about to win the World Series. I don’t think they’ve won since the ‘80s. They were runner-ups the past two years, and lost to the cheaty Astros two years ago.
I would care more if they were still the Brooklyn Dodgers and baseball was even remotely important right now.
In theory I’m rooting for the Rays, because league loyalty and they knocked out my team.
But the fact that I had to resist calling them the Devil Rays tells you how long it’s been since I really cared about baseball.
Your last two outs in the World Series, going down looking. Ouch.
Good news, the former piece of shit owners of the Mets have finally sold the team.
Bad news, perhaps the biggest piece of shit hedge fund dude now owns it.
Good news, after the final deal was completely sealed, but before the ink could dry, he fired all the shitty people in the organization.
So basically the evil level isn’t going to change, but it looks like the team itself is likely to be less shitty and dysfunctional.
I’ll admit, first thing I searched for was “Peter Thiel buys Mets”, but I was bamboozled, Steve Cohen bought the Mets.
