So it’s just a spell with a really long cooldown, not some microtransaction-y “wait 24 hours, or buy credits to unlock it now” BS.

My friend was saying this might be the best game he’s ever played. And he knows it does not look like the type of game I usually go for. And he still thinks I’d really like it. Which, whoa.

I mean, it’s still a single-player cRPG. If you don’t like those, I don’t think you’ll like it. It is, however, the best one of those I’ve played…maybe ever? It’s really fucking great at being the thing it is.

And it’s surprisingly close to 5e. Solasta is closer to the TT experience, but the alterations they made in BG3 make it function a little bit more like an action RPG - it feels dynamic, instead of the static feel you can get from digital implementations of TTRPGs.

Sorry, “Daily Spells” is a Tabletop RPG term in multiple D&D editions referring to you can only cast X level spells before you need to take a long rest (usually meaning an overnight sleep) and getting them all back. Most of the spell-casting classes in the game have it work this, but some classes get spell refreshes on short rests so I was noting the item spells were locked, single use daily spells in that context.

I could see though how if you have no experience with the systems/those terms that it would sound the MTX Time Sink mobile game warning sirens in your brain.

In many ways it feels like some of the action economy and racial feature changes they made leveraged all of the existing optional rules of the tabletop game and raided a bit of 4e for a better player experience. Also the depth of the writing and world and combat design are simultaneously scratching my cRPG itch and doing a really good feel of approximating an actual tabletop campaign feel in a way I have never quite felt previous D&D based cRPGs come close to.

Ahh, gotcha. Exactly right.

I watched this last week, and thought about making it my thing of the day, but was too lazy and thought that I’m probably only one here willing to watch 3 hour video about niche sub-genre of mario maker levels.

I have very little interest in playing Mario Maker or making any Mario level, or any of that stuff, but I have a big-time interest in a 3-hour deep dive on such specific subjects.

Especially one that opens with Marcel Duchamp.

I remember playing with Lunar Magic back in the late 2000s-early 2010s. It’s a pretty wild, versatile program where you can really have fun editing your own SMW levels and watching YouTubers react to them.

I know we’ve had discussions on this forum in the past about the various 4X games out there and the different focuses some of them have, especially sci-fi based 4X games.

In the philosophical battle between Stellaris and Endless Space 2, I’ve always been firmly in Camp Endless Space because I prefer a stronger story and more unique factions, but Stellaris is still an incredible game.

Well, the people over at Paradox are trying to have their cake and eat it too. This just looks amazing, and has already jumped to one of the top games I’m looking forward to:

Yeah I own Stellaris and most of the DLC (Theres a few recent onces I still havent had the chance/money to pick up yet) and a TNG/DS9 era star trek game is a perfect fit in terms of setting and tone for their game mechanics.

I will probably pre-order the deluxe version for all of those goodies, the Klingon advisor and VO pack is hard to pass up haha,

Well, time to give up Unity.

If you don’t wanna read the whole thing (it’s several paragraphs), here’s the short version:

Unity (as we talked about a bit on GeekNights last night) doubled down on going after shit-tier shovelware mobile games and cramming ads through their own ad network into them in 2022.

Nintendo Direct: Tomorrow at 7AM
Sony State of Play: Tomorrow at 2PM

Get excited, everybody!

I like the look of this game. That is all.

I am liking what I am seeing here.

Does anyone here have a 360Hz setup that can testify to this performance?

Nope. My monitor only supports 144 and my 1070 doesn’t even support that. It only goes up to 90 something, and I keep it at 60 anyway.
