So much like most of modern news the headline is technically accurate but also misleading.
After reading it it seems that a bazillion ants got stuck in the bunker. But those ants had a nest, like a regular nest with queens and shit OUTSIDE the bunker. The news seems to be that the outside nest was sending workers INTO the bunker (where they also got stuck, in effect sacrificing them) to help the bazillion ants out, and said bazillion ants while in there, subsisted on corpses and actually grew in number, though that’s because of the additional workers provided from the outside nest.
Also they didn’t escape, the researchers let them out.
Maybe not new to anyone else, but I just saw this and nearly fell over laughing:

TLDR: The studio hired the animator who drew the Sonic Mania animated opening vid (and sonic comic art previously) to help guide the character redesign.
