Now That Donald Trump Has Lost

I’m just not sure what you are even discussing anymore. I’m trying to discuss the original questions. Should Trump have been banned from Twitter? Is it right to ban such people, even if they are the president of the US? When? Why? What harms have come about? Who is responsible? What should the policy be? etc.

Your only replies seems to be things about how you feel about me, and not about this topic.

Right. I said I’m finished with that conversation with you. And the reasons why.

If you want to continue that conversation, you can do so with other people, not me.

If I want to continue that conversation, I will, but I’ll have to do it elsewhere than this forum.

FWIW Luke, I appreciate reading your perspectives on this stuff and have found value in the time you’ve spent, but yeah this forum… I get it.

Deplatforming works. Anyone who spreads dangerous misinformation should be permanently banned from any many platforms as possible.

I know this forum isn’t usually the place to post half hour video essays but this one gets at some of the nuance of how, basically it’s ok to simultaneously think that deplatforming nazis/qanon/whatever folks is good, and that perhaps tech companies have too much control over how communication on the internet occurs.

It definitely is.

Twitter is starting to apply its ToS to political accounts more generally.

Trump’s term in office ends with a bunch of pardons.

Giuliani, Trump’s family, and Trump himself are not on the list.

There is a lot of work we need to do. But seriously, celebrate today. This is real. Things can start to change for the better.

I’ve definitely said to Rym at least once something along the lines of “What if the president just had their friends do crime and just pardoned them all?” Real life became indistinguishable from parody yet again.

Thank you for this headline, Vice. This was what I needed today.

There’s a Bernie meme going around today, and it got me thinking.

Everyone is like hey, Joe Manchin is way powerful now. Being ostensibly the most conservative Democratic senator, assuming all votes are along partisan lines, he can stop anything that is too left-leaning.

But by that same logic, Bernie is right there with the same one vote. If something isn’t socialist enough, Bernie can stop it just the same. They gotta make both of these old white dudes happy to pass anything, along with, you know, all the other Senators and the Vice President. Don’t be shocked if there are situations in the next few years where they need that tie breaking vote and Kamala has opinions.

The cronies that Trump pardoned before he left his office can still be prosecuted.

Now he’s losing his own properties.

Isn’t that because he signed an agreement specifically that Mar-A-Lago would never become a private residence?
