Best character in the Dark Crystal movie.

Not sure if anyone has talked Tuca & Bertie yet but…everyone should get on that shit. This is now the best mature cartoon on Netflix with no doubt. It isn’t like Bojack in tone (other than visual gags or animal puns) but weigh more in the vein of Broad City or Regular Show. The show is ridiculously funny with tons of jokes per minute, uses the animation in a very vibrant, bouncy surrealest way, (lots of multimedia stuff too) and our heroines are incredibly fleshed out characters who you become incredibly attached to.

I would say to anyone on the fence that the pilot is a lot rougher than the rest of the show. Give it at least until ep 3 before dropping it.

A few years ago, Julia Vickerman pitched a pilot to Cartoon Network called Twelve Forever.

CN rejected it, but Netflix picked it up. It’s premiering June 28 EDIT: God knows when.

So, there’s an error to correct from my Twelve Forever post.

It’s premiering July 29.

Not Netflix, but a show coming to Amazon Prime:

Two new DreamWorks series announced for Netflix.

Kipo looks like the more interesting one.

This is a really great opinion piece about Hideaki Anno and the “meaning” of Evangelion .

Just got it locally (UK) at least!

And I’m stuck in this office not able to listen to the new voices!

They didn’t pay to use Fly me to the Moon. Netflix version is canceled.

They did the same thing with Your Name, none of the text is translated, or at least, it wasn’t when I watched. On top of that, when they do have subs, netflix subs tend to be, let’s say, rather variable. Ranging from the reasonably decent to the weirdly literal, awkward, and generally not good. Netflix Subs are generally just not very good, especially if you’re used to the higher-quality subs you tend to see from other providers.

Not an Eva fan myself (never even saw it) but there is all sorts of shade being pre-thrown about the netflix release and new dub.

Maybe this is a good opportunity for you to watch one of the most seminal animated works of all time?

But also, since you know the Netflix version is busted, go ahead and pirate the platinum edition DVDs. The platinum edition is the best because it has the best transfer/encoding from the Japanese release, so the best video quality. Earlier versions were sub-par for various reasons. Also, the platinum edition has the director’s cuts of episodes 21-24 which have extra scenes and other changes. I’m curious if Netflix has those or not.

Yeah, I am definitely interested in checking out the netflix version. I am the most casual of anime watchers so torrenting pirate DVDs is probably not in my future, but I do appreciate the thought/tip of directing me which version to look for. Might be if I watch netflix and get into it I go back and look for said DVD version you recommended.

Case in point my introduction to Berserk was the 2017-2018 “bad” anime that did have some pretty terrible animation and direction, but nonetheless conveyed everything I needed to know about Berserk and got me to read the entire Manga. Inferior versions can still hook me if I’m into the core idea.
