Netflix Animated Shows

We watched this over the weekend. Highly recommended.

Did anyone watch Arcane? My main expectations for this were for the art and animation. Not only did the first 3 episodes meet those expectations, but they also added a lot of depth to the champions and told an engaging story. I absolutely love it so far and I can’t wait for the next 3 episodes.

It may be a bit difficult for people who aren’t familiar with League of Legends/Runeterra to watch. There are a lot of subtle references to the games and what has already been established about these characters. My partner was able to enjoy it but that was after I explained a bunch of nerdy stuff.

Netflix money + Analog horror aesthetic? I’m down.

has anyone else being watching Arcane? it’s hitting way above curve for me, considering the pitch is “League of Legends show”.

Wife and I really enjoyed Arcane. They clearly took the production seriously and it wasn’t just trying to force a video game into a show.

I might watch it again before season 2 comes out in 2023.

One of my favorite shows now without a doubt. Absolutely brilliant. My main expectations were for the art and animation (which did deliver above and beyond), but for me, they pretty much just ended up hitting everything out of the park. Can’t wait for Season 2.

Damn Season 2 Centaur World strikes a weird line between kid comedy and adult catharsis. I’m about halfway through season 2 and I hit an episode that hits a lot of emotional soft spots. It has Y7 rating, but unless you’re an emotionally mature adult a lot is wasted.

Arcane was way better than it had any right to be. The plot isn’t ground-breaking, but the characters have feel, there are strong emotional beats, and it goes hard at its aesthetic. It’s an extremely well-told story, and I eagerly await the next season.

We also watched the second half of Masters of the Universe: Revelation, and I had fun with it! This was definitely worth watching. I think it did an excellent job threading the needle of revival - it told a very new story with a familiar property, but did it in a way that honors the original, and maybe even makes me respect it more. True to Kevin Smith, there are some funny-ass lines (like when Fisto appears, and staring at Skeletor’s visage says “I’d really like to fist that guy”), and also grappling with serious relationship topics, domestic violence, the hollow pursuit of power, and other things.

They set it up to do more, but also left it in a place where it could end, and either one would be satisfactory to me.

Just watched Saturday Morning All Star Hits! This show is very reminiscent of the TV Funhouse shorts that SNL aired back in the day. If you miss those shorts, this show feels like an extension of them. (It’s even made by SNL’s production company.)

Also, Hilda and the Mountain King just dropped today!

Bastard!! is an extremely dangerous anime/manga. Is this really what they want to do Netflix? I guess you did Devilman Crybaby, but this is another level.

If anyone isn’t aware, all the proper nouns of things in Bastard!! are barely modified names of famous heavy metal bands. There were places and characters with names like Metallicana and Anthrathrax. Will they keep that? Will they update it to names of more recent metal bands?

Looking at Jojo’s using band names in it and them being all changed for the official English subs, probably gives some hint on what will happen with that.

Dangerous for having references to Metallica and Twisted Sister? Sounds dangerous to Nancy Ragan maybe. Reading that synopsis is hilarious tho, the plot sounds bad and the use of names is kinda cringe in that teenager writing a bad fanfic sort of way.
