Babymetal (1929)
Oh cool, Achamian learned guitar:
Favorites are
- Hughman highlight reel
- Angle of attack
- Powers combined
- Members only
Alternatively, Makoto Shinkai and Shinichiro Watanabe are collaborating on a music/clouds/magic anime.
The album art alone sells me on this.
This is basically just Guile’s Theme: the album.
I think I love it.
“Hughman Highlight Reel” is definitely Mega Man X or Sonic music. Fight me.
Ok, so as much as I love this album, I think I want to mark it as off-topic. The track “Shred the Planet” is 100% Super Eurobeat, which is definitely NOT metal.
Boo, the cover art is super metal.
How about we not be elitist gatekeepers about what constitutes metal?
Or, an alternative: gatekeep like hell.
I’m just saying there’s a whole lot of stuff in this thread that I consider “not metal.” Example: Babymetal.
Sooooooooooooo do you want to open the asshole floodgates? I think not.
Fuck gatekeeping and get to gatecreeping
It’s not gatekeeping to categorize things. It’s gatekeeping to tell a person to get out.
Person: I love band X.
Gatekeeper: That band X is uncool. You are a loser for liking them. You are not welcome here.
Person: I love band X.
Me, the not gatekeeper: This band kicks ass, I’m just not so sure it’s actually metal.
I mean, come on. if someone posts some N’SYNC in here you gonna just let it slide?
Also, Babymetal is 100% Metal. I’m not going to argue it with you, though. If you want to fight that one out, you can talk to Rob Halford, Dragonforce, Rob Zombie, Anthrax, Slipknot, Galactic Empire, or any of the other metal bands that say so. Have fun with that.
If you don’t want to argue about how metal Babymetal is metal, and you simply dislike the incredible vocals of Su-metal (I can’t understand why, but taste is taste) check out the Kari band. They’re on Spotify now!
Resisting the urge.
Resistance is futile.
Anyway I was being half tongue-in-cheek and picked Babymetal specifically to troll Scott, but the conversation about categorization is both important and meaningless.
Really, “metal” as an umbrella descriptor is almost useless. It can mean experimental weird shit like Devin Townsend to lower-middle-tier prog like Devin Townsend to light bubblegum pop like Devin Townsend.
It’s a cover. I’ll allow it.

But also seriously, Myrone “Guitar Magic” kicks ass, but is very very Eurobeat. One of their other albums is “Drift Stage, Vol. 1” and it doesn’t get more Initial D than that.
Exclusive Coupê is good one.
I saw Suffocation live a month or so ago and since then I’ve been on a douchebag metal kick. I don’t know why, I don’t normally enjoy *core-adjacent stuff, but there’s something about groovy breakdowns that’s super appealing to me lately.
Post your favorite shitty breakdown-abusing garbage.
Be careful what you post, Scott the Topic Cop is on patrol.
