"Metal" is the best thread title here

New Ghost! It’s called, uh, Seven Inches of Satanic Panic.

Man, I have not been able to get into Ghost. Can someone recommend the good shit to me? Or is it really all just King Diamond redux?

Their latest album Prequelle is a bit heavier than their previous stuff, but if songs like Rats and Danse Macabre don’t do it for you then I think you’re not gonna like them

Same. They seem to be super popular and extremely renowned, but nothing about their music sounds new or interesting or exciting. I’ve listened to them a bunch, and I haven’t even found one track that makes my neck move.

I don’t know too much King Diamond but that seems pretty fair.

Ghost’s sound isn’t super metal - more like what you’d hear on a classic rock station, I think. But oh mans:

Seven of the group’s eight members, its ‘Nameless Ghouls’, wear virtually identical, face-concealing costumes. […] lead singer Tobias Forge obscured his identity behind the character “Papa Emeritus”. The character, which consists of Forge in a prosthetic mask and makeup, can be best described as a ‘demonic anti-pope’.

I like Square Hammer a lot.

Square Hammer is kicking. I really like Missionary Man too, almost all their bonus tracks are above average

Ghost seems to me, as someone who isnt into their thing, like when you infuse some various metals into the cocktail of chemicals that is My Chemical Romance, and then (as aptly pointed out): filter it back out through some King Diamond branded merch socks into a Kiss mug.

There is something to enjoy there for some I’m sure.

GosT on the other hand…

My woman is super into Ghost, I’ve been along to two of their concerts, she’s seen them 4 times or so. The show is fine. The music is okay. It’s not breaking any new ground or anything. I enjoy Square Hammer, but the songs don’t speak to me like other music I dig.

since we’re talking about Ghost

Whoa. Apparently before Dio, Ronnie James Dio was in the band Rainbow.

Yes, that Rainbow.

He left to join Black Sabbath right before they made that song.

I’m going to the foxborough concert.

I can’t actually believe it.

I’m still in shock.

I don’t like arena shows that much, but I still want to go. Problem is that it’s a random Thursday night at Met Life stadium. Logistics will be difficult.

I’m too old to stand in a mosh pit and do my best to not get knocked out.

In my experience even at a tiny venue packed to the rafters you have to try hard to get into a moshpit.

In fact there’s been shows when I was game to go buck wild but getting to the pit was not happening.

I guess times have changed? it has been a long time since I was going to see fear factory and white zombie in concert. Back then if you got near the front, which is where you wanna be, you were gonna have to deal with the pit, this was in like 96-98 though.

If you’re up front, a few rows back and in the middle, yeah its going down. But right up against the rail or to one side or the other near the front, it’s just tight pack.
