Video Game Hype Thread

Now that I’ve joined the VR nation it’s going to be hard not buying that immediately

Having possibly played it in very scheduled windows of time on multiple occasions previously, as it were, I’d definitely be buying it day one if I had the spare cash to spend. Waiting a couple weeks isn’t really going to do any harm, though.

I’ve really been digging into Star Wars: Squadrons lately. It feels like such a satisfying multiplayer space combat game, and I’m glad that it isn’t plagued by Microtransactions.

I did notice that some of you all have picked up this game on Steam. How is everyone liking it?

I’m hearing a lot of rumblings about Genshin Impact. It’s free, so I’m going to at least try it for a few minutes.

I also gave it a try. On PC it’s controller support is trash, I fiddled around restarting the game half a dozen time to get controller working and then next day it didn’t work again and I eventually gave up.

But outside of that, in the little I was able to play I saw lots of the problems that keep me away from gatcha games. Which is not the gatcha itself, gambling is fun, love gambling, everything surrounding it sucks. Characters need to be leveled, weapons need to be leveled, character skills/traits need to be leveled and everything takes tons of different items to be grinded and gained from gatcha pulls or as daily rewards. And all that numbers upon numbers, upon numbers, kills my interest real fast.

I’ve put close to 20 hours into the game at this point, and if I had to sum it up in one sentence, it’s slightly worse than BotW in every single aspect, but not critically bad in any way. Since BotW is super good, that leaves this game being pretty good.

To drill deeper into this game’s biggest flaw to me, it sells the experience of adventuring pretty well, but it lacks any dramatic changing of the atmosphere as you play it. What really sold BotW to me is how the adventuring leads to looking at some beautiful, but melancholic ruins, which leads to awe when seeing a dragon later, or getting the feeling of reverence when visiting a shrine. Genshin Impact never really does this, it’s just adventure, adventure, adventure, go, go, go. This is partly due to the story just being weaker, and partly because some of the F2P mechanics undermine giving a non mechanical expression to some objects, either by moving to fast because “there’s other things to do” or by applying reward schemes to those objects that prevents viewing them in any other light.

That being said, I’ve been enjoying it and I’d like more F2P games like this please.

Actually, maybe I don’t want to install this on my PC.

I think I’ll wait for all of them to be released, then get them all at once in a bundle.

I liked Death Crown enough to buy it and beat the single player campaign. Now there’s a second campaign for $5.

Elite Dangerous is going free on Epic store soon, and honestly, if you’re even remotely interested in space games, there’s no excuse not to pick it up when it does.

I played Elite: Dangerous for a little bit; very good as a “zone out and don’t think about the world” game. Might pick it back up, actually

I got twin sticks. so I will be looking to play some elite in the future.

IO Interactive doing a 007 game.

I was never that into the Hitman games despite them being pretty good; but that experience should play out really well for the Bond-verse.

What the hell is a Slippi?

It sounds like Silicon Valley’s attempt to Disrupt the Slip N Slide.
