Tuesday - Power Grid: Outpost

Tonight on GeekNights, we review Friedemann Friese's sequel to Power Grid titled Power Grid: Outpost. We highly recommend reading the second page of the rulebook closely. In the news, Pokémon Go (and all your location data) were sold to Scopely, there's something to this nemesis system, and this is the most important thing you can pay attention to in America's ongoing crisis.

WRT to the Nemesis system from the Shadow of Mordor games, it actually is pretty good. It’s honestly still shocking to me that they got a patent on it, but I can kind of see it given the totality of the systems needed to put it all together.

The author of the linked article is right, that technology would have been amazing in a dozen other games as a feature.

I feel like if it wasn’t patented it would have become a standard feature in a lot of 3rd person beat-em-up games like Arkham Asylum. It would have probably been refined and turned into gold if it was allowed out into the wild. Unfortunately it’s locked away for some years yet.

Seriously though, the system was pretty awesome. It made some of the combat actually personal. You really do gain a visceral loathing/hatred for that one (or five) guys who just freaking keep coming back or just keep beating you down. In either event they gain power and challenge you more and more through out the game in a far more organic way that most scripted encounters.
