I know Zesto did but unsure if they’re still around. I remember getting those at sporting events in Atlanta mostly.
Um, citation needed? I’ve listened to every episode WTYP and at this point most episodes of TrashFuture. While I can see the first point possibly being a misinterpretation because they are usually very sarcastic (common excuse, I know), Liam at the very least will have made it clear that he hates tankies since he is an anarchist and not a communist, which he is very insistent on. I also believe that they specifically refused the label of “tankie” and made fun of tankies on WTYP, though I can’t give a specific timestamp.
I’m also going to guess that with “Soleimani” you are referring to Qasem Soleimani, since I google doesn’t even give me a proper result for the phrase “Butcher of Al-qusayr”, which seems some epithet invented by you. The thing I remember about the situation, and which I am listening back to on the TF pod right now (I would link to it but it is a bonus episode behind a paywall), is that the group was rather upset with the reactions to the extrajudicial assassination by the U.S. of a iranian military commander, which you know brought us to the brink of another war, and that everyone carried water for america’s “world police” tendencies, when Soleimani wasn’t even well known to people in the west before he was killed. Alice does a bit of water-carrying for Soleimani there, but only insofar as compare him to western military commanders that are definitely not labelled as “terrorists” and pointing out that the situation that breeds people like Soleimani was basically brought about through western imperialism, which I don’t think is anything unreasonable. At no point would I describe her statements as “lionizing” Soleimani.
Claiming that Justin has “a weird hate for disabled people” is just a straight up lie, particularly for the reason you gave, when he specifically criticized urban design for not being accessible enough! (Start at 25:00 if the video doesn’t jump to the right timestamp)
It’s not popular in the english speaking world, but it is one of his nicknames in syria, referencing things he did during the retaking of al-Qusayr in 2013, especially among Sunnis who suffered a lot at his direct order.
I’m referring less to the podcasts - I only listened to WTYP on youtube - and more to things like this.
And? As much as I disagree with his assassination - in fact, while I’m too lazy to hunt it down, I’m relatively sure I’m actually on the record vehemently criticising it, and saying the people involved in a just world would be before the Hauge - this isn’t really an excuse. His assassination being absolutely unjustifiable doesn’t magically pop the civilians his militas murdered back to life.
Though “Brought us to the brink of war” is a hilariously overwrought way of putting it. It didn’t, all that happened was some saber rattling, all that was going to happen was saber rattling, and some very limp-wristed saber rattling at that.
And a bullshit one. You can only do stuff ironically/sarcastically for so long, before it just becomes something you do, something that’s part of how you behave. It’s just a coat of paint to cover nasty shit, and like most paints, it all wears off eventually.
In that case, I will put my hand up and say I was suckered about the extensiveness of it. The only thing I saw was a few times on streams when he was talking about his utopian vision of city transportation without personal cars and some folks commented that it wouldn’t work for them(As they were disabled and needed different accommodations) and he got EXTREMELY pissy, pure seething about the accessibility measures these people were asking about.
This in turn primed me to believe it when someone I generally trusted spoke more extensively about other occasions he got pissy about accessibility measures - after all, when you see someone seething about some accessibility measures, it makes it reasonable that they’ll hate others, too. I was also told - but have not seen proof - there was other shit on his now-suspended twitter account, I should have pushed for screenshots rather than taking them at their word.
(Edit - In fairness, they could have been seething about the way it was brought up, or because it was already covered elsewhere, or other things around it - memory being unreliable as it is.)
You didn’t ask about the one with Alice sending fans after someone on twitter she told to kill themselves over a minor disagreement, I notice, which makes sense - even her fans agree that she starts a lot of shit on twitter. Or you knew it was true already, in which case, do bear with the quick rundown for the folks who don’t know.
It was last year, and what happened was, The person in question(FreyjaErlings on twitter, IIRC) was living with their father, their father died, they inherited the house, renegotiated with the bank to get a better deal on the morgage, and subletted to their friends at an even split of the bills, so they could afford to keep living there. Alice decides this makes them the same kind of landlord as someone vaccuming up any property they can get their hands on and running it as a slum, and lays into the person, telling them to hang themselves, generally being abusive, directing fans over with QRTs, etc. At some point, someone tagged in the WTYP account asking them to collect their fucking trash, and, well, they basically just went “Nah, she’s right.”
How is that “lionizing” Soleiman?
As for why I didn’t ask about the “telling a trans woman to kill herself and sending fans after her” thing, that seemed to me like possibly some sort of inter-personal spat and not really worth analyzing every single piece of drama that may just come down to bullshit and people being angry at each other, particularly with admittedly a shit-stirrer like Alice. Particularly the highlighting of “a trans woman” seemed like undue emphasis being added as if trans people are above reproach, particularly since Alice is trans herself, and WTYP has had several other trans people on and has always been supporting trans people. And from what I can tell, this wasn’t some sort of bigotry situation where someone was targeted or marginalized specifically because they were trans.
Your twitter link also tells me little more on the actual situation as the only thing it tells me about what Alice did is a screenshot in a screenshot. Admittedly, it’s not a good look, but your story and link at least disproves part of your statement, as Alice didn’t “send fans after her”, because someone else tagged in a third party with the WTYP twitter account.
Alice came out of nowhere to start shit. It’s not interpersonal drama, because there’s no interpersonal, these people don’t know each other.
Explain to me exactly what the person did wrong in this situation that indicates she deserved it?
Like, you’re saying beyond reproach, there’s nothing to really criticize there, she sublet rooms in house to her friends in the fairest possible way, well below anything a landlord would charge, because she couldn’t afford to live otherwise.
She did nothing wrong in this situation, other than catching Alice’s eye when she was in the mood to start shit.
As for why I was highlighting it, simply because it was relevant. If it was a cishet white dude, it would be somewhat less important - it’s a lot harder for marginalized people to find housing and stable situations, especially when they’re unexpected without those things.
I agree that it’s not relevant, but I should still point out - that doesn’t matter as much as you think it does. Trans people can be shitty about and to other trans people, and yeah, it can even be because they’re trans in a way they don’t like - Ie, basically everything Buck Angel has said for the last 20 years, Transmedicalist fucker that he is.
(To deflect an easy retort, he is an example of that, Alice AFAIK hates him, and is not comparable to him in any way.)
That’s because I sent you one link that showed the podcast account backing her in her being a vile peice of shit, that’s what the example is about. Her sending her fans is her own nasty QRTs, which I didn’t include there.
If you want the time and effort for extensive citations on every part of the argument, I frankly don’t have the time or the care for this argument about dirtbag podcast hosts to bother. Especially because, from the way you’re hinting at FreyjaErlings being the one you think is in the wrong when she’s pretty blatantly not(See previous bit about being beyond reproach), I’ve a sneaking suspicion you’d just dismiss it anyway.
Are you fucking serious? Oh, his only weakness was that he liked bragging for publicity a bit…but that was fine anyway, because he’d probably have won a presidential bid!(Nothing backs this up.) Oh, but his notorious bragging wasn’t really bragging, because it was all true! And don’t you forget how right people were about his smart-but-arrogant vibes, ooh, too bad they applied them to Ahmadinejad instead and forgot ya boi.
Like, If that’s not lionizing to you, where you basically go that his only weakness wasn’t a weakness, and all of his absurd boasting about his accomplishments were true, I’m not sure what would be.
Also, fair warning - We’re not likely to start agreeing on this, or come to a mutually satisfying conclusion. We can just stop, since I figure we’ve both aired our views. We can argue more too, but if we’re gonna, I figure we at least both know where it’s heading, and that’s nowhere for anybody.
You understand that in that tweet Alice isn’t speaking about how she perceives Soleiman, but how Soleiman is being viewed by the people of Iran? Basically she points out that he was vain, but still popular due to his military prowess.
As for the other stuff, what annoyed me was that you emphasised that the other person was trans, when her being trans had absolutely nothing to do with the situation, and only served as a rhetorical device to make what was said worse because it could be interpreted as either a) trans people deserve special protection even in inter-personal arguments; or b) Alice singled her out for being trans.
I am also deliberately not taking a side here because I don’t know what the situation was. I don’t have familiarity, and I am also not saying someone was right or wrong. I just don’t know other than second hand accounts. Which is also why I didn’t want to discuss it until you had to dig your heel in and bring it back up.
But I agree, this isn’t really the venue for lengthy back and forths.
Very much so, despite all the years of everybody doing our best to prove otherwise, lol. We’ve all written a short novel or two worth in argument here at one point or another, but it’s just not worth it on this.
Hmm note to self, then. I’ve only ever gotten ice cream from there! Butterscotch crowns are so good lol

The initial post is a bit funny but the update, specifically the last two paragraphs, are the funniest one of these I’ve read.
