The PC Building Thread

Current build:

The one thing that’s annoying is there aren’t PCIe 5.0 GPUs, and it’s not yet clear to me if there is any way to have a PCIe 4.0 GPU and a PCIe 5.0 SSD without the GPU pulling the SSD down to 4.0.

Minor tweaks, and I’m nearly ready to pull the plug.

I don’t think I’ll buy the PCIE 5.0 M.2 drive yet. I can build without it and see how my performance is in Premiere. They’re so now and so hot (and so sold out) that I might wait for another generation and then that’s my first upgrade.

Just gotta pick a specific 4080 that isn’t sold out and a specific CPU-cooling AIO that isn’t sold out.

It begins.

I have ordered the components. It begins.

The plan is to build the new workstation, get it set up, put the GeekNights pipeline together on it, and then migrate to it.

Then I’m going to force-install Windows 11 on the current one to see if it will work. If not, replace the CPU/motherboard. Either way it’s going to be the HTPC.

The new workstation is live. Successful POST on the first try, and I even went for the hubris of fully assembling it before powering it on even once.

What’s the frame rate on Solitaire?

60fps

Same as Overwatch.

Did you go extra with fans with the RGB or keep it lowkey to one color?

My fans are going absolutely crazy right now. Synced to my audio output among other things. I’m just going hog wild like it’s 2001 and I’m at RIT. XD

Rym in the backblast of his case fans

Apologies if I am re-posting something, but I am planning to upgrade my computer to 32BG of RAM. My motherboard has two slots for DDR4 3200 and the only local source is a Best Buy. Any good places online to buy computer hardware?

If you live in the continental US then Newegg is the go to. It isn’t always the cheapest but you can get some good deals if you are willing to wait and keep an eye on their sales.
