Okay, Adobe? This is just way over the line.
This isn’t actually new. The terms are from back in February. The opt-out also actually opts out: the exceptions people are mad about are things like “if you upload the content to Behance on purpose.”
Another Adobe story. Oh boy.
So I guess Kaspersky is being banned? This is the first I’ve heard about this.
Amazing that the government would do this ahead of TikTok.
I’m shocked this wasn’t done years ago.
I would not trust Kaspersky with anything considering the geopolitical situation since 2014.
Russia was allowed to do many things unhindered pre Ukranian invasion.
Funny how there was so much Russian money laundering happening in London, but all of a sudden we needed to stop it, for reasons.
The DOJ’s lawsuit against Adobe is now unredacted. Read it here.
They seem to mostly be complaining not that the fees and terms themselves are a problem. They focus entirely on how Adobe goes to lengths to hide the existence of the terms before signup, and how hard they make it to cancel afterwards. Essentially, they are arguing that, at least in some cases, UI dark patterns are illegal.
That’s something I think almost everyone can get behind. If they win, it will be huge. US companies across the board may be forced to eliminate similar dark patterns on their sites.
Of course it would be nice if there were explicit legislation outlawing dark patterns, but good luck with that.
