'member that guy who made steams hams but itās all star? I think this may just be their brand.
Astounding how I know both the melody and the script so well I could predict what theyād stretch and pause within a frightening margin of error.
Iāve yet to watch a Steamed Hams meme video all the way through. Then again, Iāve never seen the original clip all the way through, as I didnāt find it particularly funny out of context as it is usually shared.
Why did this sketch become the one so many artists put dozens or hundreds or thousands of hours into parodying?
If you read the story I linked a couple weeks ago in this thread, you would know all. Really fascinating stuff including an interview about how and why that scene ended up in an episode to begin with.
What I found interesting was when I did watch the episode itās from I thought it was one of the less good vignettes in that episode, but I also recognize it was one of the more memeable ones and thatās such an iconic episode within Simpsons fandom that it makes sense thatād be what they made into a force of culture.
Do you find the original sketch funny yourself? Did you watch it when it originally aired, and is it a nostalgia hit for you to be reminded of it by these memes?
I did watch it when it originally aired and in syndication. At the time it wasnāt un-funny, but it was far from the best part of that episode. I remembered it when it became a meme, but it wasnāt memorable. Itās definitely not a part of the show I feel nostalgia for. That would be reserved for things like Treehouse of Horror V. The memes are great because of the work people are doing now, the original has become naught but a canvas.
And now I present the lyrics Leonard Skinnerās recently leaked song, Sweet Home Alabany:
Big wheels keep on turning
Carry me home to see my mom
Singing songs about the rust belt
I miss Alabany bad and I aināt wrong, yes
Well, I heard young Simpson sing about his (prank phone calls)
Well, I heard olā Moe has stood his ground
Well, Young Simpson better remember
A rust belt man donāt need him around, anyhow
Sweet home Alabany
The steaming hams and cheese so bleu
Sweet home Alabany
Mother, Iām coming home to you
In Alabany they love the Governor, boo, boo, boo
Now we all did what we could do
Now hamburgers do not bother me
Do steamed hams bother you? Tell the truth
Sweet home Alabany
The steaming hams and cheese so bleu
Sweet home Alabany
Mother, Iām coming home to you, here I come Alabany
[Guitar solo meditating on the beauty of the fine cuisine only found in Albany]
Now Rochester has got garbage plates
And theyāve never known a good meal
Mother, they get me so steamed off.
Why canāt they enjoy a good ham?
Sweet home Alabany
The steaming hams and cheese so bleu
Sweet home Alabany
Mother, Iām coming home to you, here I come Alabany
Sweet home Alabany
The steaming hams and cheese so bleu
Sweet home Alabany
Mother, Iām coming home to you
