I generally think you’re not going to encounter people in the forums that skirt the line between being a fascist and not. And if you’re really skirting that line then you’re probably already a little too close for comfort. People tend to not be so nuanced that you can’t tell if they’re close to being a fascist.

I think we can start with “fuck Nazis” and move on as needed. Do you espouse views in line with the National Socialist party? Then get fucked.

On a tangential topic - since we have the antifa music thread I’ve been thinking about politically-oriented music. Does the “fuck fascists” rule apply to music as well? I try very hard not to listen to various fascist and white supremacist music, but when you plumb the dark heart of Scandinavian extreme music you can run into some shit.

Well, the rules say you don’t have to respect:

  1. The idea of fascism
  2. The person espousing fascism

Doesn’t say you can’t talk about fascism. Just can’t respect it or people who advocate it.

I’m not trying to say that there will be any issue with enforcing the rule, I just want to avoid needing to do so. There’s a lot of fascists who don’t think they’re fascists, and I want them to understand they’re not welcome here before they start posting.

You think they read and obey rules?

Some of them, yes. It’s not a big deal, just something I wanted to mention.

Resisting urge to pedantically point out the handful of views the National Socialist party held that no sane person would say they disagreed with. (being against animal cruelty comes to mind)

In related news I suck at resisting urges. Also, for real though, fuck nazis.

Says you. I always vote for extra animal cruelty wherever possible. Otherwise, the animals might forget who runs this joint.

Most of the “sane” views they held were insincere, paper-only, or outright lies. A handful were either pet issues of individual members that didn’t irritate the party leadership overmuch, or else were the most basic and noncontroversial issues that warranted little debate.

Party policy was whatever was expedient to the overall goal of attaining and holding power.

This is correct; I am a pedant, not a nazi advocate.

Are you saying you are a related to a … Grammar Nazi?

Oh I was resisting the urge to pedantically point out that the National Socialist Party doesn’t exist. The Nationalist Socialist Party is the problem.

“Yea… If you spend all day shuffling words around you can make anything sound bad… Morty…” -Rick

Well, it doesn’t exist any more as an organized entity, but plenty of people espouse its tenets in the context of their own countries.

National Socialist =/= Nationalist Socialist. It’s an irritating bit of nomenclature that I was going to let go until Naoza repeated it.

In the US:

  1. Nazis (we had a Nazi party sympathetic to Germany)
  2. Neonazis (the modern white supremacist movement)
  3. The Alt-Right (the new wave of the white supremacist movement)

In the US, the so-called “alt right” is just the third wave nazi movement.

I’m not sure what you’re talking about, but I’m referring very specifically to the National Socialist German Workers’ Party, also known as the Nazi party, frequently truncated to “National Socialist.”

Consulted Wikipedia. It’s a translation difference I didn’t know about. The German combines words in a way that threw me off. Sorry about that.

I found it simply funny that Fascism gets called out by name. Im totally fine with sayin authoritarian ultra nationaist assholes GTFO, but it also makes me wonder that if fascists are called out, are there (or aren’t there) other ideologies or what-not which would be equally insta-no?

Also the spelling and grammar, Imma be trying my best, but my phone typing game is not so strong lately: plz forgive my autocorrect being ducking sharty.

Accidental save of my pedantry. Phew.
