Ordering comics online?

Hey all, I used to read comics on comixology. Then that died and as far as I know nothing good has replaced it. So I started reading physical comics again, giving most of them away when I’m done. But now my local comic shop is… Becoming less friendly. I don’t want to shop there anymore. I was wondering what solutions people might have? (Digital included!) I remember in older episodes Scott would talk about a subscription service he used that would deliver comics at a good discount, but I don’t remember what it was. :frowning:

I’m pretty sure this is the site Scott used when he did preorder for his comics.

Thank you! I really appreciate the quick answer.

Another good one is Shonen Jump’s website, if you’re into manga. You get the first three (and latest three) chapters of every title in their library for free, and for a measly three dollars, you get EVERYTHING on their site!

Yes. DCBService is the service I have used for well over a decade. In the early days I used it a lot. Nowadays I use it much much less. Some months I don’t order anything at all.

The upside of DCBS is the big discounts and not having to worry too much about your local comic book store not having what you want in stock. If it’s an obscure indie title or something super popular that sells out, DCBS has your back.

DCBS still has its downsides. They charge shipping. If you don’t order enough comics for the discount to outweigh the shipping cost, then sites like Amazon can actually beat DCBS. Of course if you’re buying floppies instead of trades, Amazon doesn’t have those.

You have to pre-order everything well in advance. There were times I ordered things I regret purchasing and times I regret not ordering something. You really have to keep a good accounting of what you have, what’s you want, what’s coming soon, and what you’ve already ordered.

And of course the biggest downside is you’re getting physical books that will fill up your home.

Nowadays DCBS is my third option. My first place to check for comics is the library. Nothing beats free books that don’t take up permanent space in your home.

The second place is just buying them like normal books on Kindle. Yeah, it’s not Comixology, but it works. I mostly use this for manga series like Chainsaw Man. They have long wait lists at the library because they are popular. They’re black and white, so reading on a Kindle paperwhite is great. And they take up a lot of space after many volumes, so I’d rather not own them.

I do in fact plan to order floppies, because what can I say? I’m horribly impatient. It might be my worst flaw. >_>
