Tonight on GeekNights, we discuss webcams. In the news, ICE murdered another person in broad daylight with video and witnesses, and Senate Democrats are willing to shut the government down over continued funding of ICE. Call your senators today. No funds for ICE: abolish, dismantle, and prosecute.
In other news, Europe may ban Elon Musk's nonconsensual porn machine and France is planning to build a video conferencing tool to reduce dependence on American technology.

Another small thing I’d add to the discussion is that some cheap and/or integrated webcams suck when recording darker complected people. Something I ran into when coming back to the office after working from home during COVID restrictions. If there was any light behind me at all, my face would be completely washed out and dark to the point where you could not see me. It looked like I was a dark smudge in a dungeon or something.
To remedy this I had the wall behind me painted a dark-ish grey color and bought a nicer USB webcam with a built in ring-light. But this is much less of an issue now with better camera setting features in newer laptops and updated video conferencing software. My old laptop was an Acer brand so maybe it was just cheap build quality.
