Tonight on GeekNights, we consider toilets, washlets, and bidets. (Oh my). In the news, some context on the current Iran conflict, and Apple WWDC25 was mostly uneventful other than keeping old devices going for a while yet.
I first encountered a bidet toilet at some fancy hotel in Las Vegas several years ago. It was a transcendent experience that I will not soon forget. I may never spend $10k on a toilet, like that one in Vegas, but I will certainly have at least washlet of my own one day.
There are less expensive washlet options out there. The Toto ones are good, but they are kind of like the overpriced luxury version.
I ended up with the Eco Nova. It was $700. That’s still expensive, but a lot cheaper than the competition when you consider the features it has. Having used the more expensive models from other brands, I see absolutely no reason to upgrade unless I have money to burn. The seat opening by itself and the remote being a little fancier are not worth $300+.
There are budget options available for well under $500 or even under $300 total. There are even some ultra-cheap ones out there that are like < $100 and have no electronics or heat whatsoever. Are they worse than the $700 bidet? Yes. But they are still a heck of a lot better than TP-alone.
