How long until you put a new set of Rarity vinyl stickers on it? Or is this the end of an era?
Intel Iris graphics.
Seems to work fine for most games. I’m going to run Overwatch on it when I get a chance and will report back.
Already looking for a good rarity sticker. But…
I named this new laptop Washu. I might go with a darker red theme instead of the purps.
If I ever get a new technology piece, I;'m going to need a new theme. I’m out of Dragonmaid characters.
This looks pretty spicy. 3:2 screen?
Hope they can deliver!
That Surface Laptop is my current work computer :-p
Intel released their Tiger Lake-H mobile CPUs today. Due to coordination of marketing departments, all the laptop manufacturers simultaneously announced new laptops that contain those CPUs. Quite a few of these announced laptops have NVidia 30XX GPUs in them.
For example, this new ASUS one that even has a 16:10 display!
I still think gaming laptops are silly, but considering the GPU shortage, this might actually make sense. Someone who isn’t a desktop builder type, but wants to do some serious gaming or other professional work could put this on their desk with an external monitor and be good to go.
Damn, I just got an Asus Strix, but this is still good news for the future. I use my laptop as a desktop replacement and I’m glad there’s still a market for ultra beefy ones.
My personal laptop history is:
Toshiba Satellite Pro running Windows 95 - Hand-me-down from my dad, used it to play Warcraft 2 and Diablo when I was 10 around 2002.
HP Compaq NC6400, Intel Centrino Duo running WinXP - Dad got it for like $100 from someplace selling refurbished business computers. Used this computer from senior year in high school through part of college, 2010 to 2015. Upgraded this computer to 4 gigs of ram and Win7. Served well for internet browsing and school work.
Acer Travelmate, Intel i3 - Bought it for $600 as it was the smallest and cheapest decent laptop I could get. It’s only slightly larger then the laptops made during the netbook fad a while back. Upgraded the ram to 8 gigs and replaced the hdd with an ssd. Served well through college. Currently being used as my htpc, no plans to upgrade this for the next couple of years. I would only consider upgrading if I start to do real work outside of the home, which I don’t foresee.
If I was in the market for a laptop right now, I’d love to get a Framework. Look at this thing. It’s like an Apple ][!
And my gosh, those swappable port bays:
