Covid-19

People are dumb.

Hopefully there will be fewer dumb people when this is all over. And no this is not me wishing death on anyone.

Reading some articles about Coronavirus and I keep seeing things like this:

ā€œThe possibility that the coronavirus spreads in a mostly stealthy mode among a population of largely young, healthy people showing no symptoms could have major implications for U.S. policy-makers, who are considering how and when to reopen the economy.ā€

Is ā€œreopening the economyā€ really the default way this is being framed in America? Isn’t there a better phrase? It feels so weird, as nobody I’ve talked to has even mentioned the economy or reopening it, only their own life situations and all that entails.

I’m always amazed at how quickly these phrases are patched into in events like this. It doesn’t matter if the phrase is true, correct, the most important concept or even relevant. It just matters that it’s catchy, has a good rhythm, and is broad enough to catch any meanings needed.

Well here’s a thing:

If they had just sacked him and then left it at that then they could have let this fade. But no, the SecNav had to go run his mouth to the crew that cheered this man as he left. I don’t know if he is just that dumb or Trump put him up to it because his tissue paper ego can’t stand people applauding someone else, but this exploded in their faces.

Probably both. Both is very likely.

End of day I’m joining the 20 million other people americans who are out of a job because of this crisis. And the many times that worldwide.

Or not. It looks like stuff is moving fast enough that the support my company was looking for is on it’s way, and I’m not being furloughed.

Oof. Good news, but that had to be some whiplash!

San Diego Comic-Con has been cancelled. The danger is real, it was the right call.

The next SDCC will be held in July 2021, as previously planned.

My July plans have probably been scotched.

Shit will be cancelled for a while, unless a miracle vaccine shows up. Not require these sorts of crowd control measures you either need a vaccine or herd immunity. A vaccine is a ways away, and america so far has only had about 7% of cases required for the lowest estimated herd immunity threshold, and that is with an estimate of 20 times the reported cases being the actual cases.

Strap in, this will be a long haul.

I might lose the beach, but as long as I can still bike this summer, I’ll survive.

PAX West is the first con we’re even considering performing at. Everything before that is 100% off the table regardless of anything opening up.

At this rate it will be PAX West 2021

Here’s hoping that everyone who paid for hotel rooms, airplane tickets, and convention tables can get their money back. I keep reading articles about how hard the comic book industry is being hit by all this stuff, both companies like Marvel and DC, but also the individual creators involved.

There’s enough work for the company I work for to carry on and so I’ve got my job back. Slight change of what I’m doing, estimation to acquire work, as well as my usual role assessing job progress and paying the workers.

These ā€œLiberatorā€ types really have lost their damn perspective. Maybe they’d come around to social distancing if they knew Russia also has a ā€œLock-downā€. After all I’ve seen on Twitter, it seems they like Russia more than the US.

Even if you recover from COVID, you’re still fucked.
