Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy and other American Football issues

I don’t think you are understanding the extent of punishment for causing injuries. I’m talking yellow and red cards like in soccer. Play dangerously? Yellow card. Cause an injury? RED CARD. Second dangerous play? Second yellow card, otherwise known as RED CARD. And that means you are OUT the match. Then your team has only 10 players until the end of the match.

Or like rugby. Out the match for two minutes or whatever. Same with ice hockey. You’re just out the match for a certain time and it’s power play time!

At the moment, if someone is ejected from american football? You lose yards or something, and then you’re right back to 11 men on the field.

Fuck that.

Well thank you for the response. Learnt something new about American football. Unfortunately does put me off the game even more. Do you think it would hurt or help the game if players became less massively specialised?

Would it hurt Warhammer if all the units were less specialized?

Well, about that…

Sure go ahead. Make a team of all the same unit. See how that does when the elves toss the ball over your head.

Well, as much as I was just bringing it up jokingly because you brought up Warhammer in an American football thread, and they make that game, I’m not entirely sure the rules would allow that. But, I don’t know for sure, I’ve only played the video game version.

I played Blood Bowl 1 for PC, and it was nearly, if not exactly, identical to the physical version.

I’ll be honest, I played maybe half an hour before I uninstalled, the whole thing was just a bit nonsense to me. Couldn’t quite get a handle on it and hold it in my head.

Just like handegg, you want to get the ball and carry it to the other end of the field.

Similar, but unlike, actual handegg, you can literally murder opposing players to clear a path.

That’s pretty much it.

Sorry, dude, I don’t really understand Gridiorn. I’m sure it makes sense to you, but I’ve literally never watched the sport, I have zero idea what’s going on or what needs to happen to get toward the goal at any given point.

Don’t be facetious and that only partly applies to Warhammer. You know that I’m not saying that every team member should be the same but a bit of versatility in players makes the game more interesting. Case in point this video shows the massive hoss players who should not be able to have quick feet showing that they can do it. Faaaar more interesting that watching a bunch of guys smash heads into each other in a poor attempt at sumo.

If you don’t like billionaire jerk owners your only morally upright position is to be a fan of the Green Bay Packers.

He’s ok. Well, he’s not, but he’s not dead or paralyzed.

Very evident fencer pose. His face goes from shouting to blank the instant he takes the impact.

What can you do about this kind of injury, besides never play football again?

We can just have flag football.

Ban football for at least 15 characters.

Imagine the kinds of players and ridiculous footwork we’d see if the most elevated form of football was flag football.

Ultimate Frisbee has this.

True. But it’s also extremely boring to watch. I’d rather watch soccer… =(

Mostly due to the “players can’t run with the disc” rule. The game is just so tedious.

Oh man, picks and screens are also banned. That explains a lot too…

Honestly with everything we know about the degenerative impact of head trauma and its manifestation in players of all ages I can’t say there is a single ethical reason to continue football as a thing in our culture vs other sports. There’s just too much money, identity, and emotional investment in it that it will continue until something else manages to supplant it on the national level.
