What do you mean by affordable? The Logitech 1080p ones are all really good and popular. They cost around $80 I think?
It’s for my cousin his budget is half that so 40 bucks.
There are a lot of off-brand 1080p USB webcams on Amazon/Newegg for about $40, but I can’t attest to their quality. Maybe an on-brand used one?
Yeah he is a teacher so I presume realabity is priority first and foremost. Logitech does have a 40 dollar model though.
Yeah, I don’t know how the quality is, though. Not because it’s 720p, but more because the cheaper ones are usually get all pixelly and artifacty if there isn’t a ton of light.
Good to know. I’ll let my cousin know.
There are also apps to connect your mobile device to your computer in order to use them as a webcam, which could be better than most cheaper options.
Cool will check that out.
I was going to suggest that, but the problem with them is they often have a large delay since the phone is encoding video and then sending it over wifi to the computer. Also, can kill the phone battery if used for too long.
It is true, however, that any modern phone camera will be way better than the webcam camera.
If you’re all in on video, the new Panasonic BGH1 that was announced today is looking very exciting.
Is it normal for cameras to brag about their chroma subsampling ratios in the marketing material? Don’t know if I’ve ever seen that before.
It’s a video thing.
M2 memory for dSLR.
Somehow missed this news a few days ago.
This is pretty big. Even though there are several other Japanese camera companies (Canon, Fuji, SONY, etc.) I’ve always noted Japanese people having a special pride relating to Nikon that they don’t have towards the others. When we saw Satoshi Kon in NY I remember he had a Nikon DSLR with him and specifically referred to it as “the pride of Japan.” I’ve seen several Japanese photographers on YouTube and other places expressing the same feeling. For Nikon cameras to no longer be made there at all shows that they are really in a tough spot.
The camera industry as a whole is being eaten alive by the likes of phones. Pretty much only the high end DSLR and mirrorless cameras make sense these days. There are just too many players in that field right now slicing up a shrinking pie.
Most of the companies have some sort of unique angle to capture a particular market segment. For example, look how Fuji has really unique cameras with the hybrid viewfinders and/or medium format sensors. The GFX50R has basically no competition. Only a Hasselblad X1D, which costs way more and is arguably not as good, comes even close.
What does Nikon do that’s special and unique? None of their cameras are anyone’s first choice for video work. SONY, Panasonic, and Canon have that all covered. Nikon is incredible for high end stills photography, but so are many others. There’s no particular reason to choose them over the competition for anything, except if you already own a ton of Nikon lenses. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see them go out of business, or get merged into another company at some point in the near-ish future. That will be extra sad.
Sigma FP! How does this contend against the Sony A7.
They are discontinuing the film because they can’t get the materials they need to produce it, not because it isn’t popular or good.
I have shot on this film in the 120 format a little bit in the past. I really like it a lot, but my refrigerator is currently full of film I haven’t shot since I haven’t gone outside or traveled or anything. Should I really be stocking up on this? When will I get to use it? It will be a Seinfeld sponge situation. The prices have skyrocketed already anyways. No point. Let a pro photographer, or someone who’s primary hobby is photography, use it.
There are lots of digital film simulation tools out there, and Fuji’s are some of the best. My Fuji camera doesn’t have a 400H mode, but maybe some of the higher end ones do? If not, I hope they add it at some point.
Fuji dropped a ton of announcements today.
The X-E4 is pretty exciting. My X-100F is my most-used camera, and this is basically an upgrade on that, only with interchangeable lenses, minus hybrid viewfinder. They even came out with a new pancake lens.
Their continued expansion of the medium format range is also ridiculous. The GFX100S is a medium format digital camera that takes 100MP photos. Yet, the size of the thing is more like a full frame mirrorless camera. It cost $6000, but that’s slightly less than the new SONY A1!
I could see myself in 5+ years when my X-100F is getting long in the tooth getting an X-E6 or 7 instead of the newest int he X-100* line, whatever letter they are on. Z? Q? I could also see waiting until the GFX100S is old and cheap used, like $1000 or less, and picking one up. The lens will still cost a fortune, though.
This looks pretty interesting. Pro-grade features, relatively entry-level price(Keep in mind, AUD and the usual Aus markup), the famous canon compatibility, ergonomics of their fan-favorite EOS line and accessory compatibility too, built in connectivity.
I need this size camera body, but full frame sensor.
I don’t think that’s going to happen. Bigger sensor means bigger camera. The FUJI medium format cameras are shockingly small considering the sensor size, but I don’t think there are that many more reductions to be made in the size of full frame sensor cameras.
