I didn’t want to open a new thread, and this is basically the “internet dirtbag” thread.
As most of you know, voice actor Vic Mignogna has recently been accused of unwanted sexual advances by fans, as well as female voice actors Jamie Marchi and Monica Rial, which lead to a counter-movement largely led by internet dirtbags under the hashtag “IStandWithVic”. Mignogna himself has has filed lawsuits against Rial, Marchi and his old employer FUNimantion who had the allegations investigated and then severed ties with Mignogna. These lawsuits however needed to endure anti-SLAPP motions, basically a test whether those lawsuits have actual merit or are just designed to burden people with a court case in order to get them to shut up.
The judge has dismissed 7 of the 12 allegations brought by Mignogna and his legal team, with another ruling coming in 30 days. (The hearing was pretty much a shitshow, due to entirely Mignogna’s legal team) In response, his fans have started to spam the judge on Facebook with their nonsense, which I’m sure who totally make the judge more sympathetic to Mignogna’s case.
Well, PewDiePie is back in the news, but surprisingly not for having done anything outright “bad”. In his latest video in which he celebrates receiving his YouTube plaque on the 100 million subscribers milestone, he announces that he will donate $50,000 to the Anti-Defamation League, apparently in an effort to put the anti-Semitic crap he pulled in the past behind him once and for all.
This of course has the large section of his fanbase that is alt-right morons in a tizzy. There are of course legitimate reasons to be against the ADL and its lobbying for Israel, but instead its all three-parentheses, “anti-white” and other dogwhistle bullshit. His subreddits are also actively being brigaded by 4chan and T_D subscribers, peddling a crazy conspiracy theory that he is being blackmailed, because “evil jews” of course.
Pewd courts outrage news so frequently I am not convinced these are acts of honest stupidity. The fact that he would rather donate a pittance (for him) rather than honestly apologize for his actions is telling, and this is exploding with an energy that cannot be incidental. You can see well enough in the tone of his fans response, nobody is upset with Pewd, either he’s being blackmailed or this is your chance to shittalk about the ADL.

Interesting article. Despite the fact that it claims to be an interview it’s more of an abbreviated history of Felix and Youtube in general. I would say it does a decent job, it doesn’t pull punches as much as you would expect the news to these days. I think the most telling phrase is
In his mind, he’s just a normal guy who happened to get famous.
which explains a lot. Felix refuses to accept that he is a celebrity; that his personal life is his public life thus he has responsibility to consider how others will view his actions. Still don’t think he deserves any sympathy; I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that he is not (consciously) an alt-right fascist, but unless he publicly takes a stand and condemns the human garbage in his fanbase he deserves every bit of scrutiny he courts.
Something I think that’s really underplayed about Felix as well is that his parents are wealthy. His dad is the CEO and Sales Director a software company called Inobiz and his mom was the former CIO and Vice President of a Swedish clothing company called KappAhl! When he dropped out of college to make Youtube videos; he got signed with Disney/Maker only within the course of 10 months.
Dude has had an incredibly lucky life and career. And for someone who messes up so often, you think he’d learn a lesson or two.
Those two rarely go together.

I’m posting it here because a) Don Cherry is basically the template for awful shouty-man youtubers, and b) I don’t want to clog up the hockey thread with discussing him because this only tangentially is related to the game itself.
For those that don’t know, Don Cherry is a former NHL coach who has a weekly segment called “Coach’s Corner” during the first intermissions during the weekly Saturday night game of “Hockey Night in Canada”. Previously this was on the national station CBC, now on private network Sportsnet. In this segment Cherry is supposed to talk about happenings and hockey plays that strike his fancy, but Cherry has also abused this platform repeatedly to push his specific brand of nationalism and jingoism, essentially turning it into a bully pulpit over the years. What’s worse is that he regularly addresses his crap a specific advice to children.
On Saturday Cherry had his segment again, and in just so many words declared that immigrant canadians were less patriotic than “normal” (i.e. white) canadians. He has now been fired over these remarks after the electronic complaint box by Sportsnet was so overwhelmed that it couldn’t field any more complaints. A lot of people are very happy with that decision, with Canada’s national “racist old grandpa” finally taken off the airwaves. However, a bunch of other people are also very mad at this decision, seeking refuge in the somewhat rambly and obfuscated manner in how Cherry made the remark, and declaring that after so many years of similar racist crap by Cherry this is just a drop in the bucket, blissfully unaware of the phrase “the straw that broke the camel’s back”.
Anyway, Fuck Don Cherry.

So Jordan Peterson, demigod of YouTube neckbeards, has an addiction to Benzos. He flew to russia where he would be given medical treatments that the U.S. and Canada would not give him, i.e. he was forced to quit cold turkey which usually results in brain damage. His daughter now says he has neurological damage.
