Kati Yla-Hokkala doubles the 5 ring endurance record, taking it from 7 minutes 28 to exactly 16 minutes. There is now exactly one record held by a woman juggler, out of the 26 tracked records with balls, clubs and rings.

Did you make that magnet thing? Pretty clever.
Yes. It was a real pain, and was then too heavy to be worth carrying it to gigs to perform it. Worth it though.
Out of curiosity, where did you come up with the idea for that? Are magnets becoming a thing in the juggling world?
Just curious about the creative thought process behind the design. It’s very cool.
I made this machine back in 2009, I think. I don’t remember the creative process, sorry! I just remember working out a way to separate the balls from the magnets via a lever and two layers of kitchen counter sample sheets, and feeling very, very clever.
Also this inspired the guy who then made magnetic juggling clubs, which lead to much better acts such as:
Are the balls some kind of putty with iron filings? It looks like they stop really well.
They are normal juggling beanbags with the fillings emptied out, and then filled with lengths of metal chain. The chains crumple up in a way to leave a lot of flexibility and compression, and have an okay weight for juggling.
I made a video answering all questions about the magnet machine. Or, to put it another way, I got the magnet machine out the shed and fixed it, and Juliane filmed it.
The Magnet Machine totally FAILED!!!
There are many reasons you’ve probably not seen Luke perform this act live… and it’s not because he doesn’t like the juggling! In this vlog, Luke and Juliane talk about the history of the act and why the machine is an engineering failure.
Juggling balls viewed from directly above. Cool perspective!

JUGGLING ROBOT OR NOT???*
Is it a contraption? A machine? A robot? Let’s find out!

Ooooh. I’ve seen this before, and I knew the spelling bee winner played basketball, but didn’t realize it was the same person. What a legend.
Club Juggling Act: Beat Train
Dedicated to the club jugglers I watched, trained with, or performed with in the early 2000’s.
Last night at the juggling course I’m teaching, I showed the students how to create such choreography. Now all they need is 5 to 10 years of dance experience and non-engineers’ fashion sense.
