Things of Your Day

An awesome short film, kind of trailer for a movie that doesn’t exist, based on a novel by one of my favourite authors.

Blindsight by Peter Watts

Oh shit, like-sight-unseen.

After watching: yep, it was awesome. You would have no idea what was going on if you haven’t read it, but awesome.

Blindsight would be a strong candidate for a Geeknights Book Club pick, but it’s a lost cause to get either Rym “Read a fucking book” Decoster or Scott “Read a fucking book” Rubin to read a book.

They sure nailed the look of Firefall and Rorshach.

Wow, that style works surprisingly well on that song!

There are many threads it would be appropriate to share this, but ultimately I think it qualifies as a TotD. Read the letter the radio show host wrote, that was the cherry on top for me.

A long twitter thread on solar power.

I liked this tweet. It let me back up a point I was making to my partner in a debate a few days ago that I think I won, but she wasn’t so sure I had won.

That’s pretty speedy.

Wow, those upload speeds.

Must be nice.

You get what you pay for.

Mostly the price is included with where we pay to live, not what we pay for the actual Internet.

I’m living in the stone age.

Tom Lehrer is still alive (92!), and released all his lyrics into the public domain.

Not really. Most broadband ISPs don’t even advertise their upload speeds.

If you look it up, upload speeds are often a tenth the download speed.

At least in the UK.

Unless you’re lucky enough to have FTTH available to you, you don’t have many other options. This is London.
