Seems like you only got burned if you used their automatic software update tool. Seems like yet again my folk wisdom turns out to be real wisdom. Don’t install that extra crap you don’t need.

Also just reinstall windows if you buy a new PC or laptop. Get rid of that bloat/malware

The IntelliMouse left? When was that?

Any one got any good mechanical keyboard recommendations? Looking to upgrade (just using a bog standard windows keyboard).

Anyone have a good ATX motherboard recommendation that will support 8 hot swap able drives, and an Internal SSD/M.2/Internal USB?

Trade in your 1080 for a 2080 because why not have ray tracing.

So after so many headaches and me cross referencing builds as far back as 2015, I think I put together a NAS build that will withstand any future issues that may occur. This device is meant to get me off the ground running for now and I can upgrade over time with new things as I need expansion.

Add $129 for an Unraid server and support and the grand total comes to $3300. So if you would like to contribute to the cause and have a lifetime subscription to the Cold Storage please let me know. Ideally will update on what to get along the way and open for second opinions on the selection I have taken. I am not the greatest with hardware so if you see something I clearly screwed up on please let me know.

So I was talking to a friend of mine last night and they gave me an idea. Not sure if anyone here is interested but thought about asking. This beast of a server does not look like it is going to be built anytime soon, due to my budget and the money I would use to buy this thing.

What they recommended is to allow people to effectively pay me to get access to the server once it is live. So I would grant you access to the server to access the various features, I do all the hard work in building it, maintaining it, and making sure it is online. What you would get is access to it where I plan to have it as a streaming device on my personal collection of DVDs and shows (feel like watching TV from Delaware? I am going to set this up on this device). Also if you are looking for a specific thing to watch? I will try to get it on there for you.

Not sure how this is going to work in the long run, had an idea to setup a “rabbit” like service for streaming media in a private channel for entertainment purposes. Anyway, like I said this is an idea my friend gave me do you think you would be interested in it?

Not a lawyer not legal advice this sounds like a good way to catch a piracy lawsuit or a kiddie porn possession charge.

This, basically you are setting yourself up for a IP theft lawsuit with plenty of actionable parts (you are running the infrastructure, providing the content, and there is even money changing hands).

Good call didn’t think of that long term planning it is then.

Constantly thinking about adding a second m.2 SDD at 1tb (running a 500 gig one only currently). Leave my original as the windows + normal applications and storage drive and use the 1TB drive for games so I can have much more installed concurrently.

I’m planning to do this also, but I’m waiting a lot longer.
