Media Analysis and Criticism

Oh weird. I watched the first two parts but for some reason never got round to the third. I’ll have to catch up.

The worst book I reviewed last year, the Calculating Stars, is going to win the best novel Hugo and that makes me sad.

After 25 years, Bill & Ted of all things is coming back for a third movie, and you gotta ask, “Why?” Sure, it was cute back in the 90s, but their relevance has long passed.

Magdalen Rose brings up reasons why the original film is still fondly remembered today and why she feels a new sequel is rather important in this day and age.

Interesting idea if it were done properly.

Meh.

What I really want from YouTube is for videos to be able to indicate the intro/outtro. This way you can have “skip intro” just like Netflix does for TV shows with intros. You could also have the video automatically un-fullscreen itself in an elegant way when the outtro rolls in.

So, it looks like The Intercept has burned another source, and judging by what we currently know, the feds at least partially by the same method they tracked Reality Winner, via microdots and other physical traces left on documents that Intercept published unedited.

A deep look into Kill la Kill. A lot of it is of course self-evident for any viewer with a brain, but there are also some deeper looks that I didn’t know about or realize earlier.

This was an excellent break down. Makes me wish I spoke Japanese so I could understand all the puns not made obvious by subs. It’s kind of a shame that such a solid premise is delivered through such a niche genre, would be great for KLK to have more penetration into pop culture like Attack on Titan or Naruto did.

As a side note the review is so comprehensive I’m surprised they never mentioned the red/blue ogre folktale it was referencing with Ryuko’s and Satsuki’s color scheme.

Sony took it down. :frowning:

This is why we’re probably never doing another media crit video show after the Utena one. Copyright law is completely broken and it’s not worth the trouble.

At this point I’m still surprised you’re going through with the rest of the season. Just do one final episode explaining how copyright is broken and then just move on to another project.

You have a website. <video src= them. ~_^

Will you pay for it?

No.

As much as I would probably do that in their shoes, that’d be pretty sad, don’t ya think? The stuff that’s super material intensive in Utena an really requires the in depth analysis is all towards the end. Honestly I’d be happier with this solution if they’d started from the end and worked backwards and only gotten like 15 episodes from the end than the way it’s done now.

I’m working on the Utena show again. I just need a few days with bad weather and my camera to come back from the shop at this point.
